Email Fraud on The Rise!

The FTB has received many complaints concerning emails offering "Too Good to Be True" travel deals to the State of Florida (specifically Orlando Resorts & Theme Parks).

In order to protect yourself from email (spam) offers of free travel or deals that are just "Too Good to Be True" review the email and look for the following telltale signs of fraud:

1- Subject line reads, "You've Won a Free Trip to the Bahamas" or "Claim Your Free Airline Tickets Now!"

2- The return email address is the same as the sender address. This is spam and should be reported.

3- You receive the same email a number of times, which means that your email address has been purchased and/or extracted from an online email database.

The FTB will launch a new section entitled "Too to Be True Email Offers" in January 2005. We urge all consumers who receive any email offer of free travel (with strings attached) to forward the suspect email for review to the FTB. The FTB will investigate the email offer and if the offer is NOT legitimate, the FTB will post the fraudulent email on the FTB website, issue a complaint to the DOACS and post the name and web address of the offending website within the FTB Public Information Watch List Database.
